Does Arcane Archer work with Crossbows DDo? ›

Only one Primary Arcane Archer Imbue can be active at a time. A Secondary Imbue Toggle does stack with the same rules. Note, Imbues currently do not work with crossbows. Thus it does not stack with Rogue Mechanic nor Arcanotechnician Artificer well.

Best D&D Race Options For An Arcane Archer Build

Elves are a perfect choice for an arcane archer in DnD, as it not only fits in thematically with the subclass, which is supposed to be based on elven traditions, but elves also get to add an extra two to their Dexterity ability scores.

Perhaps the most important feat for an arcane archer, Sharpshooter lets you attack at long range without disadvantage and ignore cover. You can also choose to take a penalty to your attack rolls for a potential +10 damage. Never being surprised by enemies can help maintain your distance.

Arrow of Death (Sp)

At 10th level, an arcane archer can create an arrow of death that forces the target, if damaged by the arrow's attack, to make a DC 20 Fortitude save or be slain immediately. It takes one day to make an arrow of death, and the arrow only functions for the arcane archer who created it.

The Crossbow Expert Feat allows a character to ignore this rule, and it applies to all ranged attacks, including other ranged weapons and - most importantly - spells. If a spellcaster takes the Crossbow Expert Feat, then they never need to worry about using ranged spells when engaged in melee combat.
