Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja received a salary of $ 139 million in 2024, beating top officials such as Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai.

Thanks to the stock option and equity awards after his promotion, Taneja’s base salary of $ 400,000 was complicated, even crossing the salary of Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai.
According to the US SEC filing, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Nadella received a salary of $ 79.106 million in 2024, while Pichai took home to $ 10.73 million, according to Alphabet’s 2025 Proxy statement.
Telegraph said that his bumper salary for last year is considered the highest salary for an finance head in decades.
Taneja’s high salary raised eyebrows, as EV manufacturer Tesla has seen a recession in sales after a backlash against the CEO. Elon MuskWhose work has come under fire while running the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) of Trump Administration.
Taneja’s rising salary comes even when Musk did not receive any salary from the car manufacturer, which has marked the biggest annual decline in sales since 2012.
Who is Vaibhav Taneja?
With a bachelor’s degree from Delhi University, Vaibhav is a chartered accountant by Taneja training. He worked at PricewaterhouseCupers in India and America between July 1999 and March 2016.
Since March 2016, Taneja served in various finance and accounting roles at the Solarcity Corporation – a US -based solar panel developer acquired by Tesla in 2016.
He joined Tesla as a corporate controller in 2017 and soon became the Chief Accounts Officer. He served in the role from March 2019 to 2023 when he was made the Chief Financial Officer.
He has held the post for more than two years and is leading Tesla’s entry into the Indian market. In January 2021, he was appointed as Director for Tesla’s Indian Arm, Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited.
