India-UK FTA cleans the path for Indian talents in Britain: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi: From the recently concluded Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the United Kingdom, the smooth dynamics of skilled professionals will be facilitated in the areas, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said at India Global Forum (IGF) 2025 in London.

The Minister provided the main speech in the Global Forum’s (IGF) plane session, from a conversion of a conversion economic partnership to the FTA to infection from the confirmation of confirmation of India’s commitment to the action: UK-India FTA, a Commerce Ministry’s statement said. Summerizing the major benefits of the deal the next day, Global Consultancy firm EY said it would reduce dynamics for professionals, including contractual service suppliers, business visitors, investors, intra-corporate transfers, and independent professionals like yoga trainers, musicians and chefs.

Goyal described the FTA as a reflection of shared ambition between two vibrant democracy. He said that this agreement not only enhances bilateral trade, but also shows India’s ability to interact on a balanced and future-oriented trade structure, which is aligning with its national interests, stated in the statement. The minister is on a high level of travel in the UK from 18 to 19 June. Underlining the next phase of implementation, he highlighted important preferences such as unlocking the institutional mechanisms for joint regime, unlocking early benefits for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups and facilitating smooth professionals. The minister also attended a special session on “UK -India Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation” at the Science Museum in London on Thursday. The session detected opportunities for the UK stakeholders to contribute to the investment of India’s expansion in digital public infrastructure, permanent manufacturing and green technologies. Discussion also covered India to create cooperation in areas such as Make in India, Production-Linked Promotion Schemes and to increase cooperation in areas such as Fintech, Artificial Intelligence and Creative Industries.

‘Business deal with contestants silly’

Goyal said that 15 years ago, before his party’s government came to power, India was “focusing more on trade compromises with countries that are our opponents”. “This is really silly, because (that’s) opening my market to its rivals, many of which have now become the B team of China. So effectively and indirectly, I have opened my market for goods that find their way from China to India”.
