Welcome to the 2024 Palm Beach Post High School Sports Awards, where we will be announcing nominations and winners for Player of the Year in each of our sports.

At the live show for this spring's Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards on Wednesday, June 5 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the boys basketball Player of the Year will be announced along with the teams, coaches, and athletes of the year, as well as a Courage Award winner. The Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards show is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.

State track and field: Benjamin boys three-peat, multiple girls squads crack top 10

Jackson Hamilton, Senior, Benjamin

Hamilton won the state championship in the shot put (17.59, 57'8.25) and the discus (55.15, 180'11) for the second consecutive year. He finished the year ranked No. 1 in Class 1A in both events and No. 3 overall in the state in both events. Jackson was also the county, district, and regional champion. He broke his own school records in both events multiple times this year and was touted by head coach Barrett Saunders as arguably the best thrower in Palm Beach County history.

Julian Luiz, Sophom*ore, Benjamin

Luiz was a record-breaker this season in the 400 hurdles, posting a 54.28 time. This was both a school record and the fastest time ever run at the 1A state championship meet. The sophom*ore was a county and state champ in the long jump with a 6.70m (22'0) mark, and a district and regional champ in the 110 hurdles (15.13), placing fifth at state. Furthermore, he was a member of the 4x400 (3:19.9) that won the event at states.

Robert Letsche, Senior, Benjamin

Letsche dominated the pole vault event this season, winning is at the state level with a 4.35-meter mark after setting a school record (4.80m 15'9). In addition to being a state champion, Letsche posted the third best mark in Florida, cementing his legacy with the Buccaneers.

Mike Winfield, Junior, Benjamin

Winfield won the 400-meter event at states, taking the gold medal with a 48.48 mark in Jacksonville. The junior was also a member of the Buccaneers relay squad that won the 4x400 event (3:19.9), helping to set a school record in the process. In addition, he ran a 1:55.9 split to kick things off in the 4x800 relay for the Bucs, who finished fourth in the event.

Jacob Cosby-Mosley, senior, Benjamin

Cosby-Mosley placed fifth at states in the triple jump after breaking a school record(14.20m, 46'7.25) in the event, winning the county championship in the event as well. He also placed second in the 100-hurdles (14.26) and seventh in the long jump at states (6.67, 21'10.75). Finally, he was a member of the 4x100 (43.17) that finished 7th at states as well.

William Owens, Senior, Jupiter

Owens was a star for Jupiter this season, claiming district titles in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 4x100 relay events, a regional title in the the 200-meter, plus a second-place regional finish in the 100-meter event. As a state qualifier, Owens made his name known in Jacksonville with two podium finishes, including a third-place finish in the 100-meter (10.92) and a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter (21.59).

Preston Sangely, Sophom*ore, Spanish River

A premier distance runner, Sangely was a district champion in the 1600-meter, 3200-meter, and the 4x800 relay events for Spanish River. He helped the Sharks take top honors in the relay at regionals and added a third-place, personal-record finish in the 1600-meter event with a 4:24.86 time. At states, he was a member of the 4x800 relay team that secured a podium finish with fourth place.

Bradley Cooper, Senior, Atlantic Christian

Cooper was a district and regional champion in the javelin throw for Atlantic Christian, earning a bid for states. When it came time for the event in Jacksonville, the senior set a personal record, throwing 51.30 meters. That marks landed him on podium with a second-place finish.

Micah Griffith, Senior, Benjamin

Griffith added his own points for Benjamin in Jacksonville by posting the seventh-place pole vaulting mark with 3.90 meters. His strongest mark of 4.20 meters also netted him a county championship.

Landon Rapkiewicz, junior, Benjamin

Part of the elite throwing crew for Benjamin this year, Rapkiewicz placed second place in the discus throw and third place in the shot put at districts. He posted top-five marks for both at regionals, including a second-place finish in the discus throw, before landing a spot at the podium with a sixth-place finish in discus at states (43.88 meters).

Larry Warren, Sophom*ore, Pahokee

Even as just a sophom*ore, Warren demonstrated his speed in the sprints this spring. He placed second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter events at districts, adding a first-place finish as part of the 4x100 relay team. At regionals, he set personal records in the 100-meter (10.79) and 200-meter (22.12) with a pair of fourth-place finishes, setting himself up for a fourth-place podium finish in the 100-meter event at states, where he also helped Pahokee to a third-place finish in the relay.

Joe Licata, Sophom*ore, Jupiter Christian

Licata ran the 200-meter and the 400-meter events this year, but the 400-meter was really where he was at his most dominant. In the longer event of the two, Licata placed first in district and then regionals before switching places with Mike Winfield in the states, finishing with a 48.58 time to place second on the podium.

Da’Corrian Jones, Freshman, Pahokee

Pahokee was young but talented this season. After winning the district title in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events, Jones posted top-three finishes at regionals in the 400-meter and both relays. At states, he was at his best in the 400-meter, setting his own personal record with a 49.87 time, landing him with a fifth-place podium finish. Pahokee also posted top-five finishes in both relays for their program's share of the points.

David Chukwu, Junior, Atlantic Christian

Pahokee's junior hurdler placed fifth at the state meet this year for Atlantic Christian, posting a 56.16 time in the 400-meter event. It was also his personal record, showing his ability to perform on the biggest stage. With his help, the Pahokee 4x400 relay team landed a podium finish in Jacksonville with eight-place. Chukwu was also a district champion in all three events as a well as a top-five regional finalist in all three as well.

Mark Fyffe, Senior, Wellington

Fyffe was at his best during the biggest events of the year. The Wellington senior posted top-five finishes in the 200-meter, 400-meter, and long jump events at districts and was a regional champion in the long jump. At regionals, he placed eighth with his best time of the year in the 200-meter (22.60), and at states, he set a personal record in the long jump with a 7.19-meter mark, earning him a third-place podium finish.

Benjamin Malcolm, Senior, Dwyer

Malcolm finished his senior year of high-school in style, setting a personal record in his final time in the pole vault event at the state championship. His 4.20-meter mark was not only his best of the year, but it was good enough for fifth at states for a podium finish.

Max Cescato, Junior, Spanish River

Cescato was a district champion in three events this year, including the 800-meter, the 4x400 and the 4x800 relays. Cescato and the Sharks won the 4x800 relay at regionals, where the junior also set a personal record in the 800-meter event with a 1:57.72 time. At states, the Sharks finished in fourth in the 4x800 relay with a 7:55.49 time.

Miche Estime, Senior, Palm Beach Gardens

Estime was another Palm Beach County athlete that performed at his best on the state stage. After winning a district title in the 110-meter hurdles, he set a personal record at regionals in the 400-meter hurdles (59.30) and then a personal record in the 110-meter hurdles (14.77) at the 4A State Championship, earning a seventh-place podium finish.

Thomas Horner, Sophom*ore, Suncoast

As a young field athlete for Suncoast, Horner set a personal record at the 3A state meet in the javelin throw, claiming sixth place with a 52.88-meter mark. The sophom*ore also posted top-five finishes in the javelin throw at both districts and regionals.

Kenyon Wells, Senior, Atlantic

Wells won a district title in the 400-meter hurdles event, setting a personal record in the process with a 54.51 time. His personal record of 22.64 in the 200-meter even came on the same day, along with a top-ten placement. After a pair of top-ten finishes in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay, Wells placed fifth with a podium finish at states with a 54.92 time.

Brennan King, Junior, Cardinal Newman

King represented Cardinal Newman in the field events at states this year, posting a fifth-place finish with a personal record 48.74-meter mark in the discus throw, performing at his best when it mattered most. Prior to his podium finish in Jacksonville, King was a district champion in the discus throw and posted a second-place finish in the event at regionals.

Dallas Desouza, Senior, Cardinal Newman

Desouza ran a 47.52 in the 400-meter at the state competition, placing third. He was also a district and regional champion in the event. In the 200-meter, he ran a 21.99 and was second at the County Championships before becoming a district champion in the event. To add to his day in Jacksonville, the Crusaders seniors was a member of the 4x800 that won at the state meet as well as the 4x400 that placed second.

Jake Kissel, Junior, Cardinal Newman

Kissel just barely missed a podium finish in the 800-meter event at the state championships, but he'd find his podium finishes by day's end. The Crusaders' junior was an integral part of the 4x800 relay team that placed first (7:48.08) and the 4x400 relay squad that placed second (4:18.05).

Samuel Enamorado, Freshman, Atlantic Christian

Enamorado was a regional champion in the high jump event this season with a 1.95-meter mark. He added a fifth place finish at regionals in the triple jump with a 12.47-meter distance as well, finishing his year with a 13th-place finish in the high jump at states for Atlantic Christian.

Barrett Saunders, Benjamin

Saunders' track and field programs had phenomenal seasons this year. The boys program secured their coveted three-peat, demolishing the competition at the state championship to win the title, despite graduating a great deal of senior talent last year. While the boys dominated, the girls program had a great showing as well, placing fourth at states after performing above expectation in a regional championship. It's the latest edition to the Buccaneers' dynasty.
