Preschoolers learn best using hands on activities and multiple exposures with different mediums. Presidents Day can be difficult to teach them about, so here you will find a list of 20 different activities that are sure to reach every learner. The activities are perfect for young children to learn some American History and have fun at the same time.

1. Presidential Timeline

Paint sticks can be used for more than just paint! Just add some Velcro and use them for timeline activities. After some read-alouds about our former presidents, preschoolers can use the books to help them sequence the events that occurred during each presidency.

2. Counting to 44

Here's a great counting activity that will also help children learn the presidents. You can print them out, laminate and then kids can match the numbers or just put them in numerical order if they know the numbers. It's a great way to teach them the past presidents.

This is a favorite book in my house. It helps explain how the duck becomes president, which helps kids understand how the election process works, in a fun way. This will quickly become a class book that your preschoolers will love.

A cute video that will teach kids about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It includes narration for kids to learn some of the important facts about these presidents and could be used as a quick introduction for President's Day themed activities.

5. Paper Bag Presidents

I love these guys! Kids can make paper bags into presidents, using some basic materials. George Washington is great sensory exposure as well. They make for amazing hand puppets and can be used to help tell about our founding fathers. My son made these at school and he had so much fun with them.

6. President Dress Up

Get ready for a presidential photo booth with this craft. Make George Washington's wig and Abraham Lincoln's hat out of construction paper and a stick. The wig will definitely take more time than the hat, and will require a lot of patience but they will both be tons of fun for your preschoolers.

I love how creative this idea is. Coloring activities typically influence kids to color things a certain color, so it's always refreshing to see something that challenges the norms. Andy Warhol was so influential on the art world, so kids are also being introduced to his work as well.

13. Are You Taller then Abraham Lincoln?

Abraham Lincoln was 6 feet 4 inches tall. This cute activity lets kids see how they measure up. Write their names on a sticky note and place it next to Abe so they can see how they tall they are, compared to our 16th President. You could do some math related activities to go along with this as well.

Immediately I thought of puppets when I saw these. They are fairly easy to put together and can be used to act out scenes from history, even if they are made up. It is also a great way to teach them about reusing things.

A handprint project that won't be so messy. Rather than painting their arms, either help kids trace their hand and arm or let them work with a partner. Then they can paint or color in the rest. This would be the perfect craft to do after reading the book about Abraham Lincoln.
