Quests in Sea of Thieves usually come in the form of maps with different quest types. Read on to learn how to get maps for quests and well as how to start them.

How to Get Quests

Get Maps from Trading Company Voyages

Maps are commonly associated with quests as they're used to initiate quests and contain the details and location of the objective.

Trading Companies such as the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance, and Athena's Fortune offer Voyages through the Quest Table found in your ship where you'll automatically receive a map when you start one.

Initiate Tall Tales

Tall Tales are a series of story-driven quests that are given by certain NPCs on different islands. Tall Tales are usually accompanied by Commendations and other rewards so they are well worth your while.

Take Maps from the Quest Board

Quest Boards are usually found in Outposts close to shipwrights and in Seaposts. You may choose a maximum of five quests for every in-game day, and reset at midnight.

What is the Map Bundle on Your Quest Table?

If you take have multiple buried treasure maps (usually from the Quest Board), they'll appear as a Map Bundle on your ship's quest table. As long as the Map Bundle is on your quest table, you should be able to access the buried treasure maps from your quest radial.

If the Map Bundle is removed or stolen from the quest table (by a crewmate or an enemy pirate), you will no longer be able to access the buried treasure maps when you open your quest radial.

Claim Emissary Quests

If you are a Grade V Emissary to one of the Trading Companies, you'll be able to take on Emissary Quests for exclusive rewards.

These are challenging quests and you will be unable to complete them if you lower or lose your Emissary Flag.

Pick Up Messages in a Bottle

Messages in a Bottle contain maps with various quest types and do not have fixed spawn locations, making them an unreliable source for quests.

One such example is the Coral Message in a Bottle that gives a Secret of the Sea quest and can be found in shipwrecks, shorelines, among floating barrels in the water, and may drop from enemy ships.

Read Mysterious Journals and Tattered Parchments

Mysterious Journals are books that contain lore snippets and will give players maps with a random quest type when read. They spawn randomly on different islands and can be found sitting on barrels.

Tattered Parchments are similar in that they also provide a quest map and spawn randomly in barrels.

How to Start a Quest

Open the Map from the Quest Radial

When you have obtained a map, simply open your radial menu and select Quests. You'll get a closer look of the map, along with the details and general location of your objective.

Navigate to Your Objective

Once you've confirmed your objective, proceed to the Map Table on your ship then navigate to your destination to start the quest.
