Camping Recipe: Giant Oreo Skillet Cookie (1)

This was a giggle-inducing camping recipe, my friends, besides the fact that dessert almost always make me giggle with joy.

Oreo Skillet Cookie. Two ingredients. One skillet.

*** commence giggling fit***

What kind of recipe blogger am I to actually post this and call it a recipe?

A lazy camping bum, that’s what kind.

A completely not caring about any street cred whatsoever, slothy, still-wants-dessert-while-camping-but-lazy blogger bum. That’s me! By the time I am done making breakfast and lunch while camping – which, to boost my street cred actually are real meals most of the time and not hotdogs- and have dinner prepped/cooked, I am not into making a real dessert for our evening.

This two ingredient dessert is my kind of lazy camping bum dessert, all it takes is finding a skillet,Pillsbury cookie dough and a bag of Oreo’s.

I just laughed out loud typing that as I truly think this is the laziest recipe I have ever written on this website.

Camping Recipe: Giant Oreo Skillet Cookie (2)

Take your Pillsbury cookie dough of choice and press into the bottom of the cast iron skillet.

Chop up as many Oreo’s as you can possibly fit onto the top of the dough. Press the Oreo’s into the cookie dough slightly.

Bake in a 350 degree BBQ (or trailer oven) for 17-20 minutes, watching it carefully to see when the cookie finally reaches a beautiful golden brown.

Cool and serve.

Camping Recipe: Giant Oreo Skillet Cookie (3)This was received with so many resounding “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” and “yums” that I started to wonder why I bother with any complex desserts at all? Is this family of mine really so easy to please that this was all it took?

Then I took a bite and realized that this is a seriously really dang good cookie. Forget that it’s pre-made dough in a tube and a bag of store-bought cookies, they baked together into something seriously awesome. The double stuffed Oreo’s are a must because the extra icing took this over the top!

So for my fellow lazy campers, this is for you! Enjoy!

I feel so lazy I can’t believe I actually managed to type this out for you.

Thanks for reading and stopping by everyone! Do you have any “food cheats” that you care to share? Or are they too embarrassing?

Really, can anything be more embarrassing than this two ingredient store-bought dessert that I just called a recipe? You tell me!

Love,

Karlynn

You call this ‘lazy’, I call it toddler friendly. This is a GREAT starter recipe. As in it gets very small kids started in the kitchen. Perhaps I should’ve gone into advertising…at any rate, thank you for blogging this! I have a couple of middle school boys that are excited to try it. And whenever I find a recipe that gets middle school boys excited about being in the kitchen, I know there is a girl out there who’ll be glad I did in about 15 to 20 years. :0)
