BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shahu returned to India
Family members of Border Security Force Constable Purnam Kumar Shahu, who were released by Pakistan on Wednesday, have thanked the Central Government and BSF officials for ensuring his return. The constable, a resident of Risra in Hooghly district of West Bengal, was handed over to the BSF by Pakistan Rangers via Attari-Wagha border in Punjab at 10:30 am. Shahu was caught by Rangers near the Indo-Pakistan International border in Ferozepur district on 23 April, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack.
Today we are very happy: family
A family of BSF jawan said, “We thank the central government and BSF officials for their efforts to bring them back safely. The last two weeks have been sleepless and full of uncertainty for us. We were constantly worried about their health. Now we are eagerly waiting to talk to them and see them personally. Our prayer is finally confessed.” He said that a BSF spokesperson said that the transfer was done peacefully and according to the established protocol. He said that Shaw had gone to the Pakistani region “unknowingly” on an operational duty in the area of Ferozepur sector on 23 April and was taken into custody by Pak Rangers.
What did the officer say
Officials told PTI that the jawan would be fully examined and medical examination, followed by counseling and ‘debrifling’ session, where BSF officers will ask him “relevant questions” about 21 days of custody. The 24th Battalion jawan of BSF will not be included in active duty and he will also be part of the official investigation initiated by the Punjab Frontier of BSF to locate the order of his arrest by Rangers and if there is an omission. Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister Sukant Majumdar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to bring back the BSF jawan.
