Electricity demand is increasing in Delhi
The demand for electricity in Delhi is continuously increasing in the midst of heavy heat. According to the data of power companies, electricity has been the highest in Delhi this season. The demand for electricity here on Friday was 6867 MW, which is the highest in four years in Delhi till 16 May. On Friday, BRPL successfully met 3004 MW and BYPL successfully met the maximum power demand of 1479 MW.
The Delhi government also installed solar panels at many important places to supply electricity. Due to the efforts of the government, more than 2100 MW power supply will be completed through green electricity. This energy will play an important role in ‘the summer months to empower Delhi and empower consumers’.
Electricity demand in the afternoon
This year BSES Discom has strengthened its network by taking several unique initiatives. This includes a comprehensive forecast/prevention probe such as thermo scanning to identify the potential ‘hot-spot’ and help the problem solve the problem. According to SLDC, the demand for electricity in Delhi at 3:17 pm on Friday afternoon was 6867 MW, the highest till 16 May. The demand for maximum electricity in Delhi on Thursday was 6474 MW.
Electricity demand in May
This year the maximum demand for electricity has reached 6867 MW, while the maximum demand in 2024 was 6855 MW till 16 May. At the same time, in 2023 the figure was limited to 5781 MW. The maximum demand for electricity in 2022 till 16 May was 6829 MW.
Demand can reach 9000 MW
According to SLDC, in 2024, the maximum demand for electricity in Delhi reached 8656 MW and it was a record. However, during the summer of 2025, Delhi’s maximum electricity demand can reach 9000 MW for the first time. Last year, Delhi’s maximum power demand crossed 8000 MW for the first time. The maximum demand for electricity in the BRPL region of South and West Delhi, which was 3809 MW during the summer of 2024, can reach about 4050 MW during summer of 2025. At the same time, in the BYPL area of East and Central Delhi, the maximum demand for electricity reached 1882 MW during the summer of 2024. It can reach about 1900 MW this year.
Preparation of BSES Discom completed
The BSES Discom are ready to ensure reliable power supply to meet the demand for electricity for more than 5 million consumers and 2 crore inhabitants in South, West, East and Central Delhi. These arrangements include long -term PPAs with other states and the deployment of the latest technologies such as AI and ML to make accurate estimates of banking system and power demand, which are important to ensure reliable power supply.
Green power will illuminate Delhi
More than 2100 MW green power will play an important role in ensuring reliable electricity during the summer months in the BSES region. In addition to these efforts, there are also advanced load-ecological statistical and modeling techniques, which help Discom accurately forecast power demand using artificial intelligence and machine learning.
