IPhone Maker Apple has assured the Government of India that there will be no change in their investment plans for the country. Apple’s commitment has come to light after a public criticism of Apple’s manufacturing presence in India by US President Donald Trump. A CNBC TV-18 report quoted the government formula as saying that there is no change in Apple’s investment schemes in India and the company has assured the Government of India about its commitments to use India as a major manufacturing base.
Donald Trump said this
US President Donald Trump said during a business event at Doha, Qatar that he spoke to Apple CEO Tim Cook about the company’s growing operations in India. Trump said, ‘Yesterday I had some problems with Tim Cook. I told him that my friend, I am treating you very well… but now I have come to know that you are manufacturing all over India. I do not want you to do me in India. I told Cook that India can take care of itself. Apple should increase its manufacturing in America instead of India.
India’s electronics industry confidence
Despite these comments, India’s electronics industry is a confidant. Rajo Goyal, general secretary of the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), said, “This may bring a little lethargy, but I really don’t think it will affect India as much.” Goyal described Trump’s comments as “just a statement” and hoped that the US President “could change his stand.”
IPhones are becoming fierce in India
India has become an important manufacturing base for Apple. The company has produced iPhone worth about $ 22 billion in the country in the financial year ended March 2025, which is a 60% increase compared to the previous year. Currently, one in every five iPhone worldwide is built in India.
