Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill
After taking retirement from Rohit Sharma’s Test, the command of the Indian Test team can be handed over to the young player. It is believed that BCCI can give young batsman Shubman Gill the responsibility of captaincy for the England tour. At the same time, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to be made the vice-captain.
Actually, fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah remains constant doubt about the fitness. For this reason, the selectors are not in favor of assigning the responsibility of vice-priests to him. A senior BCCI source informed PTI that if Bumrah is not a captain, there is no justification for handing over the vice-captains to him.
Pant’s figures on foreign soil fantastic
Rishabh Pant’s Test record has been excellent. Pant has scored an average of over 42 under the challenging circumstances of Australia, England and South Africa. On these tour, he has also reached the scores between 90 and 99 seven times. In such a situation, his name is considered to be the strongest for the vice-captain.
Meanwhile, the speculation of Virat Kohli’s possible test retirement has also created a stir in the cricket corridors. Recently, it was reported that the selection committee was making up his mind to hand over the captaincy to Kohli for the tour of England, so that Shubman Gill could get some more time for the role of leadership. However, Kohli has not yet made any official statement about Test career.
No information has been shared by BCCI about the conversation between Kohli and the board. When the selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and Board Secretary Devjit Saikia were contacted by PTI, he also refused to reply on the issue.
Shubman Gill first choice
According to sources, at present, Shubman Gill remains the first choice of the selection committee. KL Rahul is not included in this race. There has been a lack of continuity in 33 -year -old Rahul’s career and his average of less than 35 in 50 Test matches in 11 years also goes against him.
The official announcement of the Indian Test team for the England tour will be made by the end of the third week of May. The India A team will be announced early next week. If everything goes on according to the plan, the Indian Test team can make a new debut with a new leadership on the tour of England.
